About

The Gatehouse eco-cabin is situated on the Goosebumps property in Lake Brenton, Knysna. Goosebumps, so named for the awe and wonder the indigenous forest  evokes, is an ideal setting for nature lovers looking for a quiet, comfortable getaway.

A fishing and bird-watching paradise situated on the Western Head side of the Knysna lagoon. Conveniently, the Gatehouse is a 15-minute drive from Knysna town or a 55-minute gentle walk over the old railway bridge.

The Gatehouse

The Gatehouse is suitable for up to 4 guests. The spacious main bedroom has a queen-sized bed with a large en-suite bathroom with a shower. The second, smaller bedroom has 2 single beds, and a bathroom directly next door.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove and oven, gas kettle, fridge and freezer, microwave, and all crockery and cutlery. Beyond the kitchen is a dining room table that comfortably seats 6 guests.

The open plan living area has comfortable seating, and a TV with full DSTV connectivity. A closed combustion fireplace keeps out the chill in the winter months. Firewood will be provided.

A beautiful balcony with outdoor furniture offers awesome views over the lagoon. Enjoy the famous Knysna sunsets whilst cooking on the Weber on the balcony, or opt for the traditional wood braai in the garden below.

There is a small, enclosed garden attached to the cabin. Regrettably, no pets allowed.

Check-ins are very easy.  Just ring the bell on the pole next to the driver’s door, and our caretaker Emmanuel and/or his wife Feli, will hand you the keys and show you around.  They live on site and are available to assist with any requests or issues you may have during your stay. Otherwise, the owners, Mark and Leigh live on the property as well, and are also available.

Feli keeps the cottage sparkling clean. There is a washing machine at your disposal, just ask her for advice on how to use it, or at a small fee, she will do the washing for you. There are also laundromats in town should you prefer.

The ground level storeroom is ideal for keeping bicycles, canoes etc.

We are completely off-grid and run off solar power, rain water/ borehole back-up and a bioreactor waste processing plant.
